Thus, a sheep is offered as a sacrifice to seek the Ox Emperor’s blessings for the tribe’s prosperity and abundance of offspring. At the same time, fertility is considered mysterious and perilous. To counteract inauspicious forces, the Ox Emperor is intimidated by the presence of the rhinoceros, elephant, ox, and tiger, symbolizing protection against misfortune.
